The Honourable Icon

“I collect clothes like people collect cars, or stamps” -Daphne Guinness

The woman. The Icon. The Honourable

Daphne Guinness is a true Fashion Icon and is probably best known as being the Heiress to the Guinness beer fortune. She is also known as one the most avid collectors of Haute Couture fashion in the world. I have such a fascination with this woman who consumes my interest. She is beautiful, intriguing, mysterious and of course glamorous. I recently came upon a September Vogue Italia spread featuring Guinness entitled “The Honourable Daphne Guinness” and shot by Steven Klein and was actually styled by Daphne herself. It is a futuristic, 80’s Glam, twisted, high couture, visual masterpiece that blew my mind….and I loved it.

Pioneers!, O Pioneers!

Posted in Art Nouveau with tags , , , , , , , on December 14, 2009 by James Field

Inspiration truly comes from endless places and this has to be the most powerful advertising campaign that I have ever seen. It sparks imagination, it summons pride, love and youthful exuberance. It summons me to it.

James

“Come my tan-faced children,
Follow well in order, get your weapons ready,
Have you your pistols? have you your sharp-edged axes?
Pioneers! O pioneers!

For we cannot tarry here,
We must march my darlings, we must bear the brunt of danger,
We the youthful sinewy races, all the rest on us depend,
Pioneers! O pioneers!

O you youths, Western youths,
So impatient, full of action, full of manly pride and friendship,
Plain I see you Western youths, see you tramping with the foremost,
Pioneers! O pioneers!

We debouch upon a newer mightier world, varied world,
Fresh and strong the world we seize, world of labor and the march,
Pioneers! O pioneers!”

Pioneers! O Pioneers!

Sade – “Soldier of Love”

Posted in Art Nouveau with tags , , , , , on December 10, 2009 by James Field

The voice is back, Sade has returned to us from more than a decade long hiatus with the highly anticipated album “Soldier of Love” Her velvety smooth sounds mixed with her paralyzing beauty is yet another reminder of raw talent, unlike today’s overrated music of synthesizers and lip synching. I have been awaiting for her next album for 2 years now, and finally it will be released by Sony on February 8th to a swarm of loyal followers. Listen for yourself to the title track below.

Viva la Sade!
