Bubby’s

Hey my fellow food fanatics! I’m back yet again with another great ‘budget friendly’ NYC restaurant pick. This week we feature Bubby’s Restaurant in Tribeca. I had the opportunity to eat there about a month ago for my friend Leia’s birthday, and it was AWESOME! Ok so let me begin, I had never heard of Bubby’s until Leia said that was were we would be meeting her for dinner. To much of my excitement she mentioned it was on Hudson Street in Tribeca, which  im obsessed with anyway. I got to the restaurant before my friends to scope the place out, and it reminds you of being in a North Carolina, down home country diner, I mean just listen to the name!

 It’s very cozy, warm, and “Martha Stewart” meets country fried chicken..get the picture? Anyhow let’s get to the best part, the FOOD! The place has a great menu of simple classics mixed up with a little mexican flavor. My fave was the Chicken burritos, and the salsa dip soup. Since it was Leia’s big day we of course secretly told our waitress, and she brought out the most delicious chocolate peanut butter pie that I EVER ate! This was all that remained…

Yeah so, not only was there mouth watering pies, they even have a vintage photo booth in the basement, which we of course could not resist to take some silly photos in…

So in conclusion, Im going to keep it simple, Bubby’s ROCKS! And everyone should visit this great place in the heart of Trendy Tribeca.

Tao

Asian cuisine is definitely one of the most delicious and exotic genres of food you can eat, and Tao restaurant in New York City is definitely a place to experience that genre. As New York’s largest and most  popular Asian cuisine restaurant, it was made to transport you to another time with beautiful interior decor and delicious food. I have had the pleasure of eating there a few months back for my friend’s 20th birthday. I had never heard of the restaurant prior to going, but when we arrived I knew I would never forget it. Located on 58th Street between glitzy Madison & Park Avenues, the clientele who dine at this trendy restaurant, are used to excellent service and exceptional food. With the list of big names including, Beyonce, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears and Robert DeNiro, I knew the experience was going to a glamorous one. The decor of the space is beyond stunning, with the centerpiece being a 16 foot tall Buddha statue, flooded in glowing gold light and  sitting above a reflecting pool of live Japanese Carp fish.

The entire experience was truly phenomenal, the price range is bit on the expensive side, but its totally worth it if your going out for a special occasion. The food menu is unbelievable also, my favorite was the Crispy Tuna Sashimi Roll with Edemame$16, paired with the “Blue Zen” a delicious mix of Cruzan Citrus, Malibu Rum, Blue Curcaco, and Pineapple juice $12.50 Visit Tao for time of exotic dishes, awe-inspiring decor, and trendy celebs, all in the same night!

Saint’s Alp Teahouse

Williamsburg, Brooklyn is definitely the Indie Capital of America! Well maybe I exaggerate, but that area is super trendy and awesome, with all of  its vintage shops,  hip nightclubs and awesome restaurants. One place I visit often is the Saint Alp Teahouse, located on Bedford Ave & 8th Street. It’s a colorful, cozy, Taiwanese restaurant, that serves delicious food that is totally affordable.

I’ve eaten there countless times, and each and every visit I’m blown away by the food. My favorite dish is the seasoned beef and pork, served over a bed of white rice and a hard boiled egg $7. For dessert I love the toast with sweet milk, absolutely delicious! If your in search of place to just hang with friends, enjoy some awesome Bubble Tea and soak up the Williamsburg lifestyle, this is the place to be.

Jean Claude

New York City is truly one of the few places where you can literally enjoy a different genres of food every night of the week. When I first moved here in 2007, I took that as an opportunity to try all the different types food and restaurants that this city had to offer. When I first volunteered during New York Fashion Week for the designer Kati Stern, my eyes were opened to a whole new side of New York. The excitement of fashion week is truly overwhelming, but after the shows were over, and the adrenaline levels returned to normal, Kati Stern treated us to something very special. A few days after the show I was invited to join the designer, her husband Sam, her Creative Director Reco Winn, and few of her indusrty colleagues to dinner at the Jean Claude Restaurant, in the Soho neighborhood of New York City.

As you can imagine I was utterly shocked that she and her company would invite me, a common intern, to such a special celebration dinner, but I whipped out my “fancy clothes” and almost skipped there with excitement! Jean Claude is a quaint, French cuisine restaurant located on Sullivan St in Manhattans Soho neighborhood.  Although it is located in a very trendy section of the city, I genuinely felt as if we were dining in Paris that evening. The decor is very authentic of a small Parisian cafe, with wine bottles, corks and antique pictures framing the beige/yellow walls.

The food was just as impressive, I enjoyed the Roasted Codfish served with a roasted potato puree, tomato & caper salpicon, with a ginger sauce $18. It was without a doubt the best Codfish I had ever eaten, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful and elegant. Accompayied by French wine, and Creme Brulee and Tiramisu all around for dessert, it was one of the best meals I had ever eaten. Jean Claude is truly a hidden gem, and the night that I dined there was one of the most magical and enchanting that I will  cherish forever.

Cafeteria

A great place to go chill and enjoy some inexpensive grub, is definitely Cafeteria. I had the pleasure of eating there during New York Fashion Week last year. Normally I tend to steer clear of the Chelsea neighborhood of New York, no reason really I just think its kind of boring, but that night Cafeteria changed my mind on that! First off the venue is so rad, it sort of has a Miami/Southbeach vibe with the white walls and furniture, and secondly the the food is amazing! My favorite is the Grilled Turkey Burger $11 (avocado, thick cut tomatoes, cranberry ailoi, field greens) and the Mac & Cheese Spring Rolls $9 (served with a smoked Gouda dipping sauce) was absolutely delicious! Cafeteria is definitely a spot to be seen in, with celebs floating around inside, trendy hipsters conversing, and the overall vibe giving off  a sense of glamour and exclusivity to the space.

 Try it out, you may think differently of the word Cafeteria and forget the memory of the dreadful, overly crowded, terrible food serving, obnoxiously loud Cafeteria of your traumatizing High School days…this one is for grown folks!
